THE STARS LEAN DOWN TO KISS YOU,
AND I LIE AWAKE AND MISS YOU
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
- ITwas raining. Droplets of falling condensation shrouded the view through her windshield as she remained stopped at the red light. Her face resting in her left hand which was propped on the little ledge which held the handle and the controls for the automatic windows and the automatic locks. Sighing into the silence of the car, Mel closed her eyes for a moment before reopening them and staring at the ominous red light once more. The puff had created an visible vapor cloud and it seemed to linger exceptionally long before fading back into nonexistence as the heat from the air vents warmed the surrounding air. No music played in the car, Mel usually became distracted by the thumping beats and groddy music of the only genre she would play in her car - hip-hop. Which was particular because in all honesty, she wouldn't be dead caught with hip hop on her ipod though it was the only music that didn't make her feel anxious when she was in the car. therefore, she either put on the thumping beats or went in silence for the duration of her trip. she had picked silence this time because well, the damp conditions outside made it seem as if she should be quiet in her actions today. A blazing sunny day would call for the windows rolled down for a freeze out and singing [ or mumbling ] to the degrading words spouting from the radio. but at this moment, Mel preferred the thoughtful silence that was present in the truck as she continued to remain idling at the red light. sitting, waiting, wondering.
- SHE was heading to one place in particular, Sandy's diner. She normally went on rainy days and spent the hours with a diet coke and whatever spiked her interest on the menu for the day. Right now she was craving one of their chicken Cesar salad wraps and a diet coke to wash down one of the healthier meals served at the diner. not to say they weren't healthy, but it was a dine in restaurant and normally they didn't have the most health conscious choices. though it didn't matter to Mel much, it seemed that no matter how much she ate she couldn't shred the anorexic appearance that gripped her frame. which wasn't helping much because without makeup she looked like she was twelve to begin with. the curse of being short and nothing more than less than ordinary. oh well, some had it and others didn't. but she found herself unnecessarily relieved when the extraordinarily long traffic light changed from the haunting red color to the needed green to pass. the motor hummed as Mel gently leaned on the accelerate and the truck began to roll forward, pressing abit more weight in the pad and she was soon climbing through the numbers and accelerating speeds quickly. 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45.... she settled around forty five, keeping around the speed limit as she forced her attention to be directed toward the road ahead of her. Mel could tend to be extremely distracted when she allowed herself to be and driving was an activity that it would be very dangerous to become distracted while doing. especially by the way the water rushed down the windows before the wiper blades cured them of their misery and squeegeed them down the window and into some unknown compartment of the car where it would run down and blend into the liquid looking asphalt beneath her and the truck.
- THANK gosh Sandy's diner wasn't far from the dormitories, for if the journey had been longer Mel would have had been questioning her sanity considering the amount of philosophical thinking she was doing in the driver's seat and the way she had absolutely no one to bounce her intelligent ideas off of. well other than Franklin, though she knew he must also be annoyed by her constant pondering and thoughtful debates between no one else but herself. she truly needed some friends, though she wasn't going to revert to something as pathetic as paying someone to talk to her. i mean, they should want to right? it doesn't matter anyways... hands gripped the steering wheel in some sense of unknown determination as the car slowly veered into the parking lot of Sandy's. Pulling into a rather tight parking spot, Mel cut the engine of the gold colored truck and swung open the door. Careful not to hit the car next to her as she grabbed her pac man tote bag and slung it over one of her slender shoulders. Hiking up her leopard prints jeans with the rainbow belt, she placed the hood of her extremely over sized avenge sevenfold jacket over her hat which was cocked just abit sideways. a trend she picked up when she was bored one day on the INTERNET. her hair in the characteristic side ponytail she loved to wear it in. naturally curly and past her tickling the side of her breasts with the extensive length of her hair. slamming the door shut, she listened to the patter of the rain against the sidewalk and the way her feet crunched the loose gravel with every step she took toward the opening of the dinner. Hugging herself as she approached the under hang of the building, grasping the chilled metal handle and pushed her way into the warmth of the building.
- THE smell of food and grease floated into her nostrils as she wandered into the building. giving a small self conscious wave toward the stewardess who giggled and waved back. she was nice, though it also happened to be her job. taking a menu from the side of the front counter, Mel nodded to the young women and let her eyes follow the dark blue carpet over toward her favorite booth. Sliding into the well known ratted booth, Mel sighed and opened the menu. Though she did it merely to see busy, she knew what she wanted and she was fairly sure the cooks even knew what she wanted. placing her phone on the table and crossing her legs, she laid her tote next to her on the bench as she hummed to herself and awaiting a waiter or waitress to show up to take her order and then they could all move on with their lives.
