ANNABEL CLARISSE MURPHY the hardest part of living is just taking breaths to stay and i know i'm good for something i just haven't found it yet. The days were flying by, every single one of them filled with varying emotions. Anger, Annoyance, Joy, Excitement, Boredom, Peaceful. Being a moody individual changes things, and it was truly exhausting. Everyday was a great one in Anna's eyes, even those ones that she couldn't stand herself. But these days were growing together, now forming one solid piece of time in her memory. All of those distinct moments where she told herself she'd remember them for the rest of her days were normally nearly forgotten by the end of the month, replaced with new ideas and events. The one thing most prominent in her mind this past week was the arrival of her ex. She didn't dwell on thoughts of him for more then a short moment, just long enough for his face to pop into her minds' eye.
Today was Friday, Anna was sure. At this very moment, she was sitting on the couch in her dorm. She was watching out the window, taking in the sight of the courtyard. It was nearly dark, reaching seven in the evening. Anna wanted to spend the night in, maybe watch a movie or two or do some homework. She was taking a night off to relax and get her thoughts together, but now that she was alone she wanted to be out, or be in the company of someone else. She had debated texting someone to get their asses over to her dorm, but she just figured she would let them be.
Anna's appearance was a normal one for her lounging around the dorm, yoga pants and a tank top with a sweater tugged over top. With a sigh, she ran her dainty hand through the dark chocolate colored locks that rest on her head. She was bored. The textbook in her lap, Geometry, wasn't giving her much entertainment. Anna didn't like TV too much, so she didn't even both turning it on. The computer was an option - but she was just too lazy to go in search of her laptop. In all honesty, she just wasn't ready to turn her thoughts on. After opening that floodgate, she didn't know where her head would be at. It could end up anywhere. Haunting memories, the plans for her future, her present troubles. Hell, it may even drift into her envisionment of the far future, or back in time to the era of slavery. Odds were, it wouldn't be a trip in the park. If she let her thoughts run their course, Anna could end up in a funk for a weeks time. It's happened a few times in the past, and it really didn't take too much anymore to put her in that place. And she wasn't willing to just throw herself into the open water, where the possibility of sharks awaited her. Therefore, she was stalling, standing at the edge of that cliff.
Transferring her dark gray back out the window, she bit her lip as a few haunting moments entered her mind against her will. Fighting it off, she didn't want to deal with this today. Keeping these secrets was wearing her thin, and she knew that she needed to talk to someone about it at some point, it being her past and the current situation that she believed to be in with him. The problem with HIM was just speculation, he was stalking her. She felt as if he was following her practically everywhere and it honestly scared her shitless. What was she supposed to do? Nothing. She couldn't do anything. This was him. Anna didn't know what he would do, or when. His emotions could switch as often as hers, in an instant. She didn't know how to approach the conflict, and at this very moment, sitting in her dorm, she realized that she had to tell someone. Someone she trusted and knew would help take care of her no matter what happened. She would tell someone after she assessed the situation. Which she would save for later.
Sadly, these thoughts had opened that forbidden floodgate. The one that she was hiding away for at least a month now. The time sure had escaped her...
He showing up in Summerset was the biggest surprise she had ever gotten. And it certainly wasn't a good one. She had been ready to leave the life that she held in New York for good, and she couldn't do that with her ex boyfriend moving with her. Things were over between Anna and her ex, without a doubt. She help no more feelings for him in the romantic sense. His book from the series of her lifetime was commenced to her. It was over. She slammed the cover shut and hid it under her bed, where the rest of her skeletons laid. But this one was coming back to life, much to Anna's dismay. He wasn't done with her and her life yet, that much was obvious.
With a sigh bigger then she was, Anna sat up. Hot chocolate time! she thought to herself warily. She always made herself hot chocolate for serious thinking and contemplating. And she was certainly doing that. Heating the water up on the stove, Anna jumped up onto the counter top. Her eyes drifted across the room, taking in the cabinets and blank wall.
Anna hadn't realized how scared she really was until this moment, where she let her thoughts wash over her. Her fears were crashing into her with such force that she was surprised that she was still standing upright.
Maybe her mask had become a permanent shield, instead of the original escape it had once been. It had grown to be more then she even envisioned it to be, and it was growing out of control. She shouldn't have to keep this shield up. But she had grown so used to it being there that she wasn't sure she would be able to go on without it.
Hopefully someone would stop by. Anna's already had enough thinking for the day, in her opinion. She was in desperate need of a distraction.

WAVING FROM SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS."Come down now," they'll say.
At least it was a nice day. The sun was still out, a necessity of pleasant weather. The sky was an incredible blue, the color of blue-suited plastic action figures, the ones meant to be displayed rather than touched, with not a wisp of cloud trying to invade the beautiful spectrum. It would be a defilement more than anything. A breeze infiltrated the streets, twisting whatever small pieces of trash lazy people had thought would go unnoticed. Bird thought to make themselves known, and have conversations with one another from opposite sides of the street. Cars weren't anywhere to be seen, and niether were the people, all of them places other than the streets and sidewalks, probably lying in the park, the grass, enjoying the relaxing day. Relaxing, yes, enjoyable? Not always the case. There was a boy playing follow-the-leader with the sidewalk who could elaborate.
Summerset was a nice place, there was no doubt about that. It was quiet, peaceful, and humble. Everyone knew eachother in their respected communities, and for the most part the rivalries between them were kept quiet, for surely it would offset the balance of the whole city. Word got around quickly, so even shut-ins would know what was happening with everyone. There were nice people who kept the culture alive, and a decent amount of places to go on a boring afternoon such as this. Still, the place was creepy. It was the perfect place to film a monster movie; the little town, innocent, harmless, then BAM! Suddenly the couple down the streets' baby was born, human? Of course not. However, this mid-afternoon was the calm before the storm, completely silent in the center of town, except for one sound: footsteps. No, not from Godzilla or any other supernatural giant, from Eli Ackerman, resident of Summerset for two months.
Eli was on an evening run, finishing his ten miles in a disappointing time of an hour and fifteen minutes. The boy was quick, with a mile time of four minutes and twenty-three seconds. However, today had proved not to be a quick day. Maybe because he was tired. Understatement of the week... his sarcastic, tired mind shot at him. Last night Eli had gotten an unfortunate call, Duncan the I'm-sorry-about-how-you're-feeling-right-now-how-about-I-get-you-a-dog-to-compensate-love-Mom border collie had finally found his way out of the yard and into the free world. Knowing that Dan wouldn't even try to catch the dog, Eli had been drafted to chase after him. The dog was still young and spirited, therefore full of energy and hard to catch, even with Eli's speed. Ergo, he had spent half the night chasing after the animal, had gone to bed immediatly, and forgotten to do much of the homework he had been assigned. Needless to say today had not been the best day, nor was it the most distinct, and there were many little details that seemed to have gotten lost on the way to Eli's memory. There was one thing he did remember, though: No way in hell did Duncan get a walk.
Despite having fallen asleep in half his classes, today had been anything but calm and relaxing for the boy. He had slept through his alarm and woken up nearly two hours later than usual. Though those extra two hours hadn't gotten him very far. He would have ran across campus to school, but it was one of those days where he needed every single textbook he had. He was nearly positive he stood at a slant now, due to his shoulder bag. The day got more and more tiring, despite missing his first period and being late to his second. Math was, well, math. History covered some random nonesense that wouldn't be necessary to know in a year. English held a discussion on the three chapters of whatever book that Eli hadn't purchased, let alone read. And to finish up the day, the boy had gotten yelled at in spanish in spanish. That afternoon and early into the evening he had spent doing the homework he had skipped out on, and then forgot about supper to take a nap. It was both unlucky and unpleasant to have been woken up by the one, the only, the alarm clock. The late alarm clock, now. The machine was 'accidentally' broken, but for some reason Eli could still hear the awful ringing in his ears.
He padded back through the student lounge, finding his eyelids heavy like mountains. Three flights of stairs, that's all it had to be. Only three. Then a small trip down the hallway and you're in. Eli let out a yawn. He wouldn't be surprised if he didn't wake up until Sunday. But it's arguable that he fell asleep while walking up the stairs, for it seems he had gone an extra flight. He took no notice of the floor number '4' and instead briskly (or, as briskly as he could manage), exited the stairwell. He was too tired and out of it to recognize numbers, he had a date with his room. While the mattresses were too short for the majority of the school's male population, the thought of falling into a dream the second his head hit the pillow sounded far too nice. Although, Eli was sure he would sleep so soundly there would be no dreaming. Only sleep.
He turned the handle and walked into the door, finding a surprise waiting inside. Maybe he had collapsed in the student lounge. Maybe he hadn't even made it to the student lounge, and his body was passed out in the middle of an intersection somewhere. Anna was there, in the room. Would a cow fly through the window? Eli hoped (very sincerely, for the sake of his windsheild), that if any sort of livestock were to fly through the window, it would be proof of a dream rather than a scary sort of new reality. But in his half-dazed state, the boy didn't realize that he was in the wrong room, or that he had made the stupid mistake of climbing an extra flight of steps. Instead, wide-eyed with shock, he spoke: "Anna, how did you get into my room?" ANNABEL CLARISSE MURPHY Glancing around the plain room, Anna sighed again. The walls were much too bare for her liking, casting a glum and lazy mood over the dorm. Could she decorate it to her liking? Hopefully, because Anna wasn't so sure how long she could last with this creme walls and simple, not-so-lively furniture set.
The thoughts of the furniture set her off of the previous pathway that they were on, at least for the time being. Studying the wall intently, Anna was envisioning different colors and decals, paintings and artwork. Patterns and sculptures, furniture types and placements. Currently, she was set on a more lively feel. Warm, but bright and energetic, just like Anna herself. Possibly a deep red, vibrant but not overly so. Would the school allow her to exchange the flooring? Hopefully, since she was picturing a soft Carmel tan wood floor instead of the carpet that was chosen. Mocha colored leather couch, with end pillows in a red to match the walls. Beyond that, Anna wasn't so sure of anything.
Reigning in her inner-designer, Anna shook her head in an attempt to clear her thoughts. She didn't even know if she could forgo any of these changes her mind had started to create. And here she was, picturing everything. She had to stop herself before she got too wrapped up in it. Anna was about to search through her distant memory of Art Galleries for a painting. She really did get far too into these ideas that her mind made up, and often took them too far.
The whistling from the now boiled water brought Anna out of her envisionment completely. She grabber one of her coffee mugs, a solid Mocha brown in color, and the hot chocolate powder. Mixing up the powder and water, Anna closed her eyes. The soft clinking of the spoon against the mug was hypnotic, calming Anna slightly. The oddest things kept the young girl calm and at ease, this being one of them. A simple repetitive noise kept her nerves at bay. The mug was hot on her hands, but she reveled in it. Anna loved heat, warmth.
Glancing down at the hot chocolate, she deemed it to be stirred up enough and took a sip to test. It was just what she wanted, and Anna had left over water. Maybe she would want more, she figured, so she left it on the burner. Walking back over the the couch, her thoughts somehow returned back to a panic. Her mind really did appear to be all over the place, but it didn't matter too much.
Why was he here? Lysander Harris and herself never really had that much of an amazing relationship. Anna had believed it to be love, but she had realized that it was nearly anything but. What worried her was not just that he was here, but that she didn't understand why. It really wasn't something that she enjoyed, not being sure of others' motives. Or being stalked, obviously. That wasn't exactly on her list of things to get done before she dies, but sadly, it's been crossed off. Being stalked and followed.
Before she could bask in these feelings too much, just as Anna was about to sit down and get cozy and comfy for a long night of thinking, someone walked right into her dorm. She had been wanting a distraction, something to keep her away from her thoughts. And a distraction is what Annabel was granted with. Someone walking into her room was definitely a surprise, considering she had believed the door to be locked, and she currently didn't have a roommate for whatever reason.
Setting down the mug quickly, Anna jumped back up and turned around, completely startled. her nerves were on edge, just before she noticed who it was. It wasn't someone coming her to rape her, kill her, kidnap her, or steal from her. Or she seriously hoped that Eli wouldn't do any of that. Taking in his stance, she wondered if he was drunk.. or high. Well, he had walked into her room... On a completely wrong floor. So being under the influence really wasn't that out of the question. As he asked her what she was doing in his room, Anna couldn't help but laugh. "I'm not in your room, babe," She giggled out as she worked her way over to where he was standing. She wanted to know if he was at all intoxicated, but didn't want to ask straight out. So she would investigate. Reaching him, she looked into his eyes and examined his pupils. No, they didn't look at all dilated or anything. So, he wasn't under the influence. Why the hell did he wander into her room, then? "This is definitely my room," She stated, grinning at him. "this is room 400, and it's a female floor, Eli. You aren't even on the right floor," This last statement made her laugh all the more, throwing her into a laughing fit.

WAVING FROM SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS."Come down now," they'll say.
There was no way. Back in the city Eli had been out much later, did much more than a matter of running, and returned home with less energy than he had here and now, but he still never walked into the kitchen in place of his bedroom. He hadn't passed out on the washing machine instead of eating mattress. Infact, he had gotten far too talented at stumbling through the house on an undiagnosed sleep deprivation. Only once did he knock anything over (and for the record, it was more the dog's fault than his own), and he can remember two times out of many that he ever fell asleep too early (which proved to be rather hard to blame on the dog, so he accepted it as his own fault). Point being, there were two explanations for this occurance: The force of gravity in South Carolina was stronger than that on Detroit, and the heavier air made the boy more tired than he ever knew. Plausible, but ridiculous. Or Eli was dreaming. Simple enough, though the previously mentioned flying livestock had not yet arrived.
Though it did seem like it could be a dream; Anna was there. She had not been in Eli's dreams in the past (though there is a first time for everything), but that's not to say she was completely out of mind. The girl was confusing. But confusing in the most alluring way possible. On multiple occasions she had managed to have Eli fishing for words in the muddled lake of frustration. But not always, sometimes it was the lake of bewilderment, or the lake of smitten, and every so often, when he was in the middle of his classes, he cast his words into the lake of wonder. He liked her, to say the least. Like, like-liked her, as they say in middle school. How much or how little fluctuated. During his history class, when he got halfway through the sheet of blank paper with worthless notes that would never be read again, there was nothing in his world but her beautiful gray eyes. When they were fighting, she was worth as much to him as the shoes she wore: pretty, but he couldn't use them even if he wanted to.
But right now, even in Eli's state of haze, he could tell this wasn't one of those times. This was the middle-ground. They were friends, and therefore his words could (maybe) be found swimming in the lake of oddly-patterned-friendship. They were friends for a week, then got into a fight, and after two days they were friends again. For a week, they got into a fight, and two days after... If Eli wasn't mistaken they were about halfway through their week of friendship, and therefore he didn't have to worry too much about what he said. After all, he should be worrying about being able to say anything at all that didn't emerge as a lion-sized yawn. And right now, he wasn't sure how he felt about her, like-like wise. Not that the slow reaction time and inability to process things like simple numbers would help. She was Anna, and therefore he could never be sure of anything for more than an hour.
It wasn't until Eli back-tracked a bit and took a peek into the hallway that he decided that maybe he could be wrong. He turned back to Anna with a sheepish smile, and suddenly, he like-liked her a little more. That always seemed to happen, now that he was thoroughly embarassed, he saw her as more amazing and beautiful and suddenly there were no bad qualities about her. Eli got word from another fisherman that some big fish were popping up in the lake of embarassment. "Well..." he started. Too bad he wasn't a more experienced angler. "I guess we can go straight to laughing at this, seeing as you already have..." If he had any more energy in him, he would've been alongside her, laughing at his own stupidity. Laughing with Anna made his heart sing. But for now, a small smile would have to do.
But he had the courtesy to assume that she didn't want him there, after he had so (unintentionally) rudely barged in. After all, it was a Friday evening and this was Annabel Clarisse Murphy. "But you're probably busy," Eli's thoughts echoed his words, in on of the most uncreative sentences of dialogue an rper could come up with. "I'll go. I need the sleep anyways." Once again, Eli put his hand on the doorknob, waiting a moment, wishing she would hop up and say: "Oh! No! Eli! Don't go! I need you! I've always needed you!" But perhaps that was wishful thinking... ANNABEL CLARISSE MURPHY Anna and Eli did indeed have somewhat of a strange relationship. Being from the two separate schools, it created a bit of a diversity, but Anna didn't really care about the feud between the two schools, or cliques, or any of that sort of nonsense. Which might just be why so many people like her. She isn't just another judgmental, stereotypical, bitchy cheerleader. She broke the mold. She wasn't one to live under others expectations, others views. Anna didn't want to live her life under another's terms. She loved the life she led, and was going to keep it going as long as she could. Hence her being friends with her peers from all over the map, which included Eli.
Like previously stated, the two had an odd relationship. It was almost a dance, a continuous cycle. They would be best of friends, then they would have some form of a fight, leaving Anna extremely pissed. And Anna being Anna, the stubborn, argumentative bitch that she was, would keep the fight going for a few days. She normally started with an actual verbal fight, then switching over to annoyance and avoidance. It worked well enough, gave her enough time to calm down. Calm down enough to begin the cycle again, reforming the friendship as if nothing had happened in the first place, until they fought again. In all honesty, they could probably drop the fighting, but Anna liked it. It kept her on her toes, gave her life some spice. Sure, the spice was interchanged with sugar for majority of the time, but a little bit of spice in a relationship was healthy. Good. Necessary in Anna's world, even.
Anna would be the first to admit that their friendship was an odd one. It was like clockwork, the fighting and making up. And yes, Anna would also be the first to admit it was her fault. She's normally the one to get pissed off of something that Eli says, and for whatever reason, she was only really bothered by the end of their friendship week. Anna didn't really like their fighting days, considering just how the two were, but found the break a necessity. At this moment in time... She wasn't sure of her feelings for Eli. They were still developing, maybe. Sometimes she felt like there could be more then friendship between them, if she let there be, but she just.. wasn't sure. Life was hectic, and Anna wasn't really one that was in tune with her feelings. They probably would be able to have a great relationship if she let it happen.. On the days they weren't fighting, even on those they were, in all truth, they meshed well. Anna enjoyed his company, he was a great companion. They could laugh together, and talk about anything they wanted to. He was a great guy, one that she could easily picture herself going out with. Hell, he was probably her best match in the school at the moment. But that didn't mean anything. Anna had gotten into a relationship because the rest of the school viewed them to be the perfect couple for just her last relationship, with Lysander. They had been together for a year, and she really wasn't happy there, with him. But here... Anna was sure she would be happy with Eli. But she still didn't know if she "like-liked" him. In a less than platonic way.
When had feelings gotten so difficult? Well, for Anna, always. But where had she lost the ability to review over her own feelings and comprehend them accordingly? Get the synopsis, and take action based on observation. That had been her game plan for everything. But here, that was thrown out the window apparently. Everything was up in the air, soon to be brought hurtling down to earth, and Anna, once again. Hopefully she'd get a hold of her feelings soon enough, because this debating was difficult, and was honestly wearing her thin. Maybe that was why they fought so much, so often. She was too busy trying to decipher her developing feelings for him.
Before, Anna had been great with her feelings. Well, no, not really. That was a false statement. She's always been horrible with her feelings. With the harsh hand that life had dealt her, she was prone to just.. pushing away the problems. Run away as fast as she could, shove them under the bed. To be dealt with at a different time, or to be left there to rot. As long as she didn't have to deal with it at that moment. Or ever, hopefully. Too bad this plan hasn't worked that well for Anna. Those ghosts were haunting her, and she just kept pushing them back under the bed, and tried to make them stay there. She wasn't ready to deal with all of those issues. She may never be ready. Anna just didn't want to leave them there long enough, and have someone else stumble along upon them, and try to put together the puzzle that was Annabel Clarisse Murphy. Because in all honesty... She wouldn't be better any time soon. Sure, the problems may disappear for a short while, but she truly believed she was to be forever fucked. And maybe this was why Anna was so afraid to realize her feelings for Eli.. She didn't want him to figure her out, see her past and her flaws. Maybe he would hate her after he figured everything out. She couldn't live with that... She was sure of it. Eli hating her? It seemed impossible. Anna wouldn't be able to deal with that. Therefore, she was lost.
"Of course we can go straight to laughing about this Eli," she told him, still slightly giggly, despite all of the thoughts running through her head. It was obviously one of those days - the days where she tried to figure her life out. "But you've got to admit, this is hilarious." With that little smile, for whatever reason, her unknown feelings were now known, as Eli was standing in front of her, just stumbling into her dorm half asleep, they were now crashed down right in front of her. She really did like him. In a not so platonic way.
But that doesn't change anything, in all honesty. Not yet at least. Is just means she might just have to double up her armor, because this could be tough, keeping her well hidden pain even further away, to a place where he couldn't even catch a glimpse of it. So here they were. In the same place they were just a moment ago, with so much different to Anna. She wondered if he could see the change... It was so much to her, so different then it just was.
As he made his way out, excusing himself, Anna didn't want him to go. She didn't have anything to do anyhow. Grabbing onto his arm, she dragged him back. "No, please stay. Really. I'm not doing anything, and even if you just sleep on my couch, I'd love the company. The silence was actually really getting to me," She told him in all honesty, smiling warmly at him. "And I'd really enjoy just having someone else here with me."
NOTE; my muse attacked! 1213 words. Damn. Thats a lot of character and feeling development up there.
